Experience: Sonya joined ACM in 2017 with over 17 years’ experience and leads ACM’s Risk Advisory Service Practice. Her focus is on internal control over financial reporting primarily for publicly traded companies, helping them design control structures that prevent/deter fraud as well as meet their compliance needs. Sonya has experience developing templates and methodology used to perform the Section 404 of Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX 404) assessments, and has managed multiple SOX engagements for diverse companies, in a variety of industries. She also has significant experience working with foreign companies on their ASX Principle-7 and NI 52-109 assessments.
Sonya has many years of involvement preparing and reviewing the risk assessment and scoping for SOX projects, including identifying key process risk and mitigating controls for companies with multiple significant business locations in the mining, construction, and oil and gas industry. She works closely with management and control owners to develop and maintain a realistic and manageable control structure. She also works closely with the client’s auditors during each phase of the process, focusing efforts around documenting key processes and testing key controls. She prepares reports for senior management and the audit committees on control weaknesses, and facilitates required remediation, including evaluating deficiencies and preparing communications. Her experience also includes training and supervising international teams in SOX assessments and managing teams of individuals across multiple locations.
